“Why will you not repent and throw away everything and serve the Lord?” – Paul Washer

Been Awhile…Again

It’s amazing how time gets away. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about updating this. I think about it, but then I wonder what I have to say? It is too easy to put someone else’s thoughts, quotes, or videos up; and there’s a real temptation to do just that so as to get “another post”, but that’s not right. Similarly, doing this everyday could make it an idol in my life (even if nobody reads it). That’s not right either.

Well, instead of shooting for frequent readability, let’s go for consistency. I will try to post at least one post each week. It’s not much but hopefully I can write more when my schedule changes in a few months. In the mean time, hopefully I’ll get fed preparing posts and you’ll get fed reading them, and God will be magnified through us both. Amen?

Christmas Prayer List

Today is the day we remember Jesus’ birth. He came to set captive sinners free from the tyranny of death and sin.

As you celebrate today with friends and family, exchanging gifts, hugs, smiles, laughter, food, music, and more, please take time to pray for:

People around the world who sadly have no reprieve from their pain, such as:

- Pfc Bowe Bergdahl, held captive by the Taliban since June 30 (pictured)
- Christians who suffer loss and persecution in hostile lands like Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, various parts of North Africa, China, and elsewhere
- Christians who are imprisoned around the world simply because of their unwavering commitment to Jesus
- Those who ache with physical hunger and starve in spiritual hunger
- Those who have lost loved ones this year, whether through accidents, crimes, or war

People who have offered up their lives for the spread of the Gospel, such as:

- Street evangelists who daily receive insults, jeers, and taunts as they preach Christ crucified
- Missionaries working in lands as translators, church planters, computer specialists, managers, mechanics, school teachers, etc.
- Itinerant preachers who still circuit travel to exhort, rebuke, teach, and challenge churches full of believers to greater commitment to and intimacy with Jesus Christ
- The few and rare godly pastors who hold fast to Biblical truth and sound doctrine

And, of course, people who continue, even today, to “suppress the truth in unrighteousness”; adamantly refusing to repent and believe.

I’m sure I’m missing many people, but you get the idea.
Of all the gifts we could give today, the gifts of your time and prayers for these people are priceless.

Merry Christmas,
Anthony

Why “Throw Away Everything”?

This was the second thing I posted when I first started. I figured it was a good time to re-post this video in case you have wondered where the name came from.

Oh, and thank you for stopping by. God bless you.

100th Post!

It is both my joy and privilege to celebrate the 100th post here at ThrowAwayEverything. I really don’t know how many people, if any, read these posts (besides my wonderfully supportive wife!) and that’s OK. As I said in my very first post fourteen months ago:

This site has one purpose: The Exaltation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Nevertheless, it is my hope to leave this site “out there” for anyone… someone?… perhaps to see and, perhaps, to be so moved by something on here so as to surrender everything in obedience to Christ.

All I can add to that is simply to echo Paul’s words of his own unworthiness and God’s redeeming kindness:

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 1:12-14)

Thank you, Father!

Time Flies…

OK, I thought I’d only been away from here two weeks. I can’t believe it has been 3 already. Yikes! Well, the time up in Georgia was a blast. It is always good to reconnect with old friends, but even better to fellowship as brothers in the Lord.

The weekend after we took a trip up to Orlando to visit the HQ of Wycliffe Bible Translators. I will share more about that in a future post(s), but we enjoyed touring their Wordspring Discovery Center to learn about the challenges that go into translating God’s word into someone else’s mother tongue. It is vastly more complex than simply going from this language to that!

This past weekend, well, it was time to collapse at home and just recharge. The Lord blessed the time with much refreshing!

One more summer trip this weekend to see family.

The Lord is GOOD!

Off for the Weekend

1985Going away for the weekend to see not just an old friend but a dear brother in Christ.  Can’t wait to sit around and talk about the Lord together and all He has blessed us with, namely Himself!
